Global Health Workforce Alliance Releases Report on Health Workforce Needed to Reach MDG 6

On January 28 at the Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health in Bangkok, Thailand, the Global Health Workforce Alliance launched a new report, “Will we achieve universal access to HIV/AIDS services with the health workforce we have?” The report examines the health workforce implications of trying to reach Millennium Development Goal 6: universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support by 2015. Ugandan District Sees Progress on Health Workforce Goals with Planning

Last month, staff from the Kumuli District Health Office in Uganda reported that they have succeeded in recruiting 73 of the planned 80 new health workers (nurses, midwives, radiographers, and laboratory technicians), constructed 10 houses for health workers, and provided uniforms to 50 health workers. CapacityPlus Promotes National Health Information Systems in West Africa

CapacityPlus’s Dykki Settle presented at the Sub-Regional Workshop on Health Information Systems and Epidemiological Surveillance in the Economic Community of West-African States Region on November 24 in Dakar, Senegal. The workshop was sponsored by the West African Health Association (WAHO) and brought together representatives from all 15 member countries to promote developing national health information systems (NHIS) to improve the prevention and control of epidemic-prone diseases.
