Malik Jaffer Brings Health Workforce and Systems Expertise to CapacityPlus

IntraHealth International has named Malik Jaffer as CapacityPlus’s deputy director, human resources for health and health systems strengthening.

“It started a long time ago when I was still young,” recalls Mariam Louise Walusimbi. “I really had the passion to take care of the sick.” She’s now a critical care nurse in Uganda.

Mary Gitari’s heart was touched when she first caught a glimpse of nurses in their bright white uniforms. “When I visited the hospital,” she remembers, “I saw how beautiful the nurses looked, and how they were giving good care to their patients. I wanted to be one of them.” She’s now a nursing officer in Kenya. Read more »

Producing New Health Workers in Nigeria: 874 Scholarships Awarded to Final-Year Students

Ceremonies held February 19 in the Nigerian states of Benue and Edo honored 874 students from schools of midwifery and health technologies who have been selected to receive scholarship and bursary awards through a program supported by CapacityPlus. The students—154 midwives and 720 community health extension workers (CHEWs)—are in their last year of training. The awards are intended to ensure the students will have the financial resources they need to finish their studies and graduate from their programs so they can be deployed to meet Nigerians’ priority health needs.
