Intern to Assess the Legal and Policy Environment for Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination in Mali’s Health Workforce

CapacityPlus has formed a partnership with the Morehead-Cain Foundation for an internship that will send University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill scholar Max Seunik to Mali.

Health worker in MaliSeunik, an undergraduate, will spend approximately nine weeks working out of the Bamako office of IntraHealth International, the lead partner of CapacityPlus. He will conduct an analysis of gender and human resources for health (HRH) in the national legal context.

Seunik will produce a review of international labor laws related to gender discrimination and equality in Mali’s health workforce, with an emphasis on examining how the conventions have been domesticated into laws, policies, and legal procedure; an assessment of the degree to which gender policy information has been disseminated; and an analysis of potential partnerships with other donors and organizations in Mali conducting gender and HRH activities.

His findings will aid in informing CapacityPlus’s activities in Mali and ways in which the project can incorporate strategies to counter gender discrimination in the health workforce.
